Marzipan Hearts
The perfect treat to go with a nice cup of coffee after your Valentine's dinner.
These are easy to make, a bit messy but fun.
You can use shop bought marzipan or you can make your own. Everyone has their own favourite recipe for marzipan, this is mine. I am using a small amount here which will make about 12-15 hearts depending on the size of cutter you use.
100g Ground Almonds
100g Caster Sugar.
1 small egg
1tbsp Whiskey or Brandy.
A few drops of almond extract.
In a small bowl whisk the egg. whiskey and a couple of drops of almond extract together.
Mix the ground almonds and caster sugar together.
Add the egg mix to the dry mix to form a stiff paste, you might not use all the egg.
Sprinkle plenty of icing sugar on to the worktop and knead the marzipan until smooth.
Roll out the marzipan and cut out the hearts.
Put on to a sheet of baking parchment and leave to dry out for a hour or so.
You need 150g of chocolate.
Melt 100g in a bowl in the microwave in 20 second burst.
Add the remaining 50g and stir until melted in.
Keep stirring until smooth.
Now for the messy bit. Dip the heart in the chocolate. Leave on the baking to dry. Trim off any excess with a sharp knife.
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY
