Welcome to my garden.

Due to family commitment's I decided not to renew the lease on my allotment this year. I didn't want to give up growing vegetables so I decided to take out one of my flower bed and put in a raised bed.. I also took up a couple of paving slabs and built a smaller raised bed. I have a lot of pot on the go as well. It means I have to grow smaller crops, I can live with that.

June 2013

June 2014.
The long bed has garlic, red sprouts, sprouts, purple sprouting broccoli, cauliflower, leeks, 2 Swedes,
plus radishes, beetroot carrots and 2 celeriac growing in the gaps. I know it is a mix but I am trying to fit in as much as possible.

The smaller bed has chard, beetroot, lettuce, 3 Swedes, and we have just finished a row of radishes.

In pots I have potatoes x4, broad beans, bolotti beans, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, parsnips and a aubergine which is not doing great.

The strawberries are in a hanging bag and they are doing great. The ones in the pots on top of the boiler house are getting there slowly.
I also have rhubarb in the garden for the last couple of years and 2 pots of blue berries .1 plant is covered in berries the other 1 has 10.
It is nothing on the scale of my allotment but I'm happy.

There is still room for the flowers.

Dinner tonight.

  1. Dear cookie
Although I am sure you miss your allotment, it is great that you are growing such a lot in your garden. Many enjoyable meals to come, I'm sure.
    Best wishes and happy gardening

  3. Wow! Impressive! I can kill any plant off in a matter of minutes so kudos to you for a fantastic load of plants in a smaller space than the allotment.

    1. I'm ok in the garden but I can kill house plants just by looking at them.

  4. It's amazing just how much you can pack in isn't it? It all looks lovely and productive, and aren't home grown broad beans just the best? We have lots of raised beds with different crops in, plus a soft fruit cage, and it's enough for our needs. It takes over the bottom third of our large garden, the rest is cottagey borders, shrubs, a gravel garden, a summerhouse is rising up out of a bed of lavender, alchemilla, pinks and carnations, campanulas and heuchera. I am envious... is that alstromeria I see before me in one of your photos? I love the plant, keep meaning to buy one.... it's on my list!

    1. I would love a bigger garden to grow more, I will just have to wait until I win the lotto. It is great to be able to walk out your backdoor and pick something for dinner. The alstromeria is a brillant plant it has been in flower since march and still going strong, it can take over if you let it.
