The Sun Came Out

This week the sun came out, it has been dry sunny but very cold in the shade. So the first thing I did was put washing on the line. I love line dried towels and bedclothes.
look at the lovely blue sky
Then I moved on to a spot of gardening.

I was in Dealz (Poundland in the UK) and picked up my onion sets of 1.49 each and the same for the seeds. I have started the onion seeds on the window of my Sons bedroom. It is one of the sunniest and I also planted some celeriac seeds. This is my 3rd year to try to grow celeriac I can get lots of leaves but no veg, if it doesn't work this time I'm giving up.  I also started the onion sets in cells in my cold frame.

I'm just showing off now. My Husband bought me the cold frame last week. The other thing in there is broad beans. I had 14 seeds left from last year so we will give them a go.

The first of the daffodils in the garden

The ice I lifted off the bird bath.

I got a chance to go to the allotment. There wasn't a lot I could do there as all the raised beds were frozen solid. I was able to rake the leaves and dead grass off the back of the plot so it looks a lot tidier. I am planning on putting potatoes in on one side and cabbages etc in on the other. They did better the year before in the ground then they did in the raised beds last year. I will still have to net them the place is over run by birds but that is to be expected as the plots backs onto the wild life lake. As long as the swans don't decide to march through the place we should be OK. Last count there was 28 swans on the lake.
All tidy.

The garlic is sprouting

The Blackbird  lending a beak

Daffodils and rhubarb.

Some bulbs coming through.

These are the 1st early potatoes I'm growing this year.

They are chitting on the floor in the kitchen.

  1. Doesn't it make a difference to see a bit of blue sky again, it's back to being dull again here, and it's really cold too. I love your new coldframe, that's something I'd love to have. Your daffodils are early, mine don't even have buds yet.

    1. The coldframe is something I have wanted for ages. It's in the middle of the path at the moment. I haven't worked out where it is going to go durning the summer.

  2. It's so cold here, a few flakes of snow are in the air again. You've been so busy, your allotment will soon be flourishing unlike our poor one... must get hubby to go down there! Beautiful daffs :) xx

    1. Even when the sun is shining it is cold here. I am working in 20-30 minute bursts and then inside for a heat.

  3. Still too cold here to put the washing outside. Our three storey house is north facing in the back so its into april before we get much sun. Your daffodils are lovely, I'm afraid mine are still nowhere near out yet, the only ones we have are the ones I am buying in the supermarket!

  4. I can't wait to be able to put the washing out to dry! Perhaps next month? And the vegetables will be lovely. I have black thumbs so everything I plant dies :(

    1. There is something lovely about a line of washing flaping in the breeze. It is not the norm to have things on the line this early in the year.

  7. I am consumed with bitter shame after reading your blog.

You are getting on with it, and I do nothing but gripe about my garden being too big and the effort involved with growing stuff in it.

But I am an indoors person. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I love what you do though - what a bountiful way of living, and so very satisfying.
