A couple of weeks ago she posted a recipe for a giant jaffa cake so as exams have just come to a end I thought I would give it a try.
For the jelly you need orange juice. sugar and gelatin. The sponge is a all in one mix and of course dark chocolate. The full recipe is here http://www.josblueaga.com/2013/05/a-giant-jaffa.html
on Jo's blog.
I started by making the orange jelly
While that was in the fridge setting I made the sponge. I used a Pyrex bowl and just to be sure I could get the cake out I lined it with 2 strips of baking parchment.
When the jelly was set.( It took about 4 hours,) and the cake cold I melted the chocolate and left it to cool so it would not all end up on the worktop.
I heated the marmalade for 30 seconds in the microwave and spread it on the sponge. Then I topped it with the jelly.
I spooned the cooled chocolate over the jelly and sponge and I managed not to make a mess.
The verdict was Can you make that again please.
My one complaint the chocolate started to break up as I cut it so next time I will use a little less so the layer is not as thick.
I would recommend you check out Jo's blog for some very good recipe's.
That looks delicious, but I don't know about using less chocolate, I'd rather have plenty of it broken than less of it intact.
ReplyDeleteYou could be right about the chocolate Jo.
DeleteMmn, that cake looks divine. When I was younger I managed to eat 12 jaffa cakes at one sitting, although of course not as big as that one!Definitely cant do that nowadays though!!
ReplyDeleteHi Anne. On a very very bad day I could put away a whole packet. It is way I don't buy them that often.

ReplyDeleteWow! That looks fabulous! I assume you can use veggie setting agent too? I can munch my way through a box of Jaffa cakes without too much trouble!
Looks like you all enjoyed it.
Best wishes
Ellie
